Michelle Torrez:
Michelle believes that the most important part of a painting is what the artist has to say. This workshop will focus on the intuitive side of the painting process; students will be encouraged to paint very quickly from a live model. We will do exercises on using color, composition and brushstrokes to add a dimension of expression to your work.
This is more of an intermediate class, you will need to have some drawing skills and be somewhat familiar with your medium. All mediums are welcome, however, Michelle will be instructing in oil. Bring your paint and lots of enthusiasm.

Known for her powerful and elegant brushwork and color. Michelle Torrez' expressionistic figures are vivid and painterly. But on closer examination, there are qualities that are not always obvious- Torrez communicates the beauty of unlikely emotions.
Torrez believes that the greatest influences on her work were the circumstances of her childhood and teen years. "My life influenced me to look deeper to find the beauty and humanity in people and places. Even at an early age, I knew I was an artist."
Torrez studied for two years at the Art Students League of Denver with Kim English and Dale Chisman, and has been painting professionally since 2002.
Michelle Torrez is now widely collected , and in 2003 was chosen by the US Art In Embassies Program to participate in a show in the US Embassy in Sofia Bulgaria. This show also included such artists as John Singer Sargeant, NC Wyeth, etc..
