Kim English:
Workshop Description:
This workshop will focus on the ability to paint quickly and accurately. This is a skill that can be useful in many situations, especially working on location.
Techniques for achieving a spontaneous yet controlled approach will be practiced. Students will work with models in natural light in quick poses, working into longer poses as the class progresses.
One to two days will be devoted to landscape painting on location outdoors. Kim is known for his great approach to light and shadow. He will demonstrate and work individually with all students.
Biography:
Kim English’s award-winning paintings capture the moments of everyday life. A faculty member at the Rocky Mountain School of Art, he teaches workshops throughout the Mountain States and finds inspiration traveling worldwide. About his direct, quick-sketch approach, he says, “Immediacy is important not only because it is often the nature of people, but for me, it is the most instinctive way to paint. The process is like a performance. It’s the magic of spontaneous work combined with a candid observation of society.”
