Lorenzo Chavez - Landscape Fundamentals:
We're excited to host Lorenzo here in Central Texas !
This workshop will cover the fundamentals of landscape painting with pastel, including composition, values, masses, focal point, edges, drawing and color. Pastels’ consistent colors lend themselves naturally to outdoor studies and indoor studio work. Weather permitting; we will be outdoors every day working on location creating small pastel field studies. I feel that working from life is the best way to gain the skills and knowledge to improve your landscape work.
Daily Demos; Discussions on simplification,edges, value, color & drawing; Designing from photos & field studies and more.
This class is for those who already enjoy working with pastel or who desire to experiment with this medium.

Biography:
Lorenzo Chavez was born in New Mexico. His inherited connection to the colorful and historic Southwest as well as seeing the Taos Society of Artists works was the catalyst for his art career. He graduated with honors from the Colorado Institute of Art. Chavez participates in several national invitational group exhibitions including the Pastel Society of America in New York, Artists of America Show in Denver, Plein Air Painters of America, Albuquerque Art Museum, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Bradford Brinton Museum, Coors Show in Denver, the Butler Art Museum Gilcrease Museum, and Settlers West Gallery in Tucson. He was honored in a successful on-man show at the C.M. Russell Museum and has participated successfully in several C.M. Russell art auctions.
Feature articles have appeared in Southwest Art, Artists of the West, American Artists Magazine, and the Pastel Journal. Three new books feature his art: Colorado Landscapes, Pure Color: The Best of Pastel and Plein Air New Mexico. Lorenzo is represented by galleries and many private and corporate collections both nationally and internationally.
His suggestive renderings and fluent technique have earned him numerous awards and many devoted collectors throughout the United States and he is considered by many to be the west’s premier pastel painter. He has been the recipient of awards and honors from such notable groups at the Pastel Society of America, Society of American Impressionists, the C.M. Russell Auction, and Artists of the West Pioneer Museum. Chavez’s work is featured in prominent galleries and is included in private and corporate collections nationally and internationally.
